History of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

The local church where "Christian," "Advent," and "Sabbath" combined was established by Christian Connection believers, a religious body that in the mid-nineteenth century was fifth in membership within the United States.

Members of the Christian movement sought biblical authority for every aspect of belief. They wanted "no creed but the Bible." Thus, if they were convinced from the Scriptures of the literal soon advent of Christ and the continuing validity of the seventh day Sabbath, their heritage demanded acceptance.

Because William Miller, a well-known Baptist preacher, exhibited profound knowledge of the Scriptures as he lectured upon the literal soon advent of Christ, scores of Christian Connection churches and many of its ministers and leaders became "Adventist" in the late 1830s and 1840s. The Washington, New Hampshire, Christian Connection church by the early 1840s was an "Adventist" church.

Kaohsiung English Church (KEC)

Through the Holy Spirit came an idea to start an English group in Kaohsiung. The vision being to plant an English speaking church in the second largest city of Taiwan!

The work began with Kent John leading a team of committed Christians… As the idea grew so did the pieces needed to start the group! Hymnals, Bibles, chairs, and even a piano were given! Through the blessings of the Spirit, hard work, and a lot of effort the little group grew and it wasn’t long before Pr. John Ash (acting TWC President), realizing the vision had progressed, decided a pastor would be needed.

In November of 2006 the call was given. And in January 2007 Pr. Jack K. Boyd arrived in Kaohsiung for a three week trail run! Pr. Boyd then returned to his family in the US (Walla Walla WA.) and after his daughter was born and was able to travel Pr. Boyd and family (Aprilyn his wife, Jax their son two years old, and Amberlyn ten weeks old) came to stay on May 4, 2007…

As the group continued to grow, Selena Tsai was the first to join the group through baptism. She had been attending Bible studies with Karina and Nestor (two of the hard working individuals previously mentioned), and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit Selena surrendered her heart and life to the Lord!

The group along with the Mother Church (Kaohsiung Chinese Church) have had many joint ventures together throughout the entire time (and continue to do so)… We have been to a milking farm, tops of mountains, and to churches in the mountains… We have been to lakes and retreats together at TAC... We have had joint holidays and communion Sabbaths together… Of course, a lot of BBQs too! And as we received love, nurture, and guidance from our Mother Church we grew stronger!

It wasn’t long and Pr. Ash seeing the vision had reached the next level decided there was a need to separate the Kaohsiung Chinese Church and the Branch Sabbath School. Therefore, it was voted by the Kaohsiung Chinese Church Board that this group should stand up from under its mother’s wing be separate from the mother! It was that day that we became the Kaohsiung English Church.

Many changes have been made to our Sanctuary since then. We have replaced the A/C, covered the windows with curtains, installed and new ceiling, new audio and visual systems, as well as adding new cabinets and shelving. Again the work has been hard but the Lord has blessed and what was once an English Center has taken the shape of a Seventh-Day Adventist Church!

We are currently undergoing a Revelation Seminar in hopes that after seeing and understanding the urgency of the times we are living in and after being recharged with the Holy Spirit, we will be filled with a burning desire to leave our comfortable church and enter into the depths of Kaohsiung on soul saving expeditions. Reaching out as a beacon of light into a cold and dark city! Being about our Father’s business… Would you join us? Please pray for us; that the Lord will continue to bless this vision until the return of Lord Jesus Christ…
